When exploring a national park that is 49,052 acres wide, it can be difficult to see all you want to see during a short, fun-filled vacation.  Luckily for us, the Indus Valley gave us wheels!  Acadia National Park and the town of Bar Harbor offer quite a few options if you’re looking to learn more about MDI in a short amount of time.  Our job?  Filter out the best ones and share them with you.

Oli’s Trolley:

Trolleys are always more fun when accompanied by large personalities and history, right?  If you agree then hop on Oli’s Trolley and enjoy the ride. Oli’s Trolley is exactly what it sounds like: a trolley, that offers a driven and narrated tour of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park or Cadillac Mountain (your choice).  The tour duration could be anywhere from 1 – 4 hours depending on what you choose.  Tours board in Bar Harbor and depart daily (check out their website for more information).

MDI TOURS:

MDI Tours offers a more personalized tour of the island.  These driven tours are hosted by three sets of couples, all who have lived on the island for quite some time and are passionate about the island.  Three different tours are offered, one of the entire island, one of park loop road and one of “the quiet side” (what locals call the less-traveled side of MDI).  All are a great way to explore the island and support a smaller business in the area!

Acadia Carriage Rides:

Most of us traveled by car to Acadia and may not be interested in sitting in another on for four hours.  If that’s the case for you then Acadia Carriage Rides is a great option.  Acadia Carriage Rides offer four different options for tours at surprisingly affordable rates, each one different from the other.  Great for kids and animal lovers alike.

At Your Service Private Tours:

Looking for something a little more private? A private taxi/tour service can be reserved with advanced reservations through atyourservicetaxi.com, tours are $80 per hour for minivan, $100 per hour for SUV; and $150 an hour for 14 passenger van.  Tours can be tailored to your interests and availability, which means a satisfactory experience on both ends.

DIY Island Tour:

Sometimes the best way to explore a new place is to get lost in it.  Do a little research on the island, mark a few destinations on a map and start your journey!  There is no better way to explore MDI than creating your own road map with friends or family.
