And what could be better than meeting and breaking bread with friends old and new? Here’s our guide to Community Suppahs, meals and coffee breaks on Mount Desert Island and surrounding areas. Bar Harbor: Coffee’s On! Senior Coffee House Bring a friend and enjoy coffee, tea, snacks, and simply catching up with friends while making some new ones. The Coffee’s On! Senior Coffee House runs through April at a new location, the YWCA MDI, on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Contact: Island Connections Brew Crew From 10.30am – 11.30pm every Wednesday at Mount Desert Island YMCA, enjoy coffee and homemade goods while socializing with others in the community. Free to all community members, no membership required. Food For All This is no longer running due to construction at Holy Redeemer. Simply mentioning this as it’s quite a well know project. Northeast Harbor: Neighborhood House Community Cafe 11.30am – 1.00pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month November through April. It’s a family dinner for the community, and generally has a theme. Cost: $7 donation suggested Southwest Harbor: Common Good Cafe a non-profit made up of an all-volunteer group dedicated to promoting health, nutrition, and community among the residents of Mount Desert Island. Located on the “quiet side” of the island, The Common Good Community offers a by-donation café in the summer that funds community meals and events in the winter. Soup Thursdays 11.30am – 1.30pm Popover Sundays 9.00am – noon Cost: Donations at the meal Off Island: Everybody Eats 3pm – 6pm Monday nights, Parish hall of St. Dunstan’s Church, 134 State St., Ellsworth Welcome Table 3pm -6 pm Wednesday nights, First Congregational Church, 2 Church St., Ellsworth So as you can see, there are many options to get you out and about and reconnected with your neighbors and Community. There are also many one-off potlucks, parties, programs and events that you can attend. Keep your eyes peeled when reading the Mount Desert Islander Calendar, check out Events on MDI on Facebook, and look at our island Chambers of Commerce Calendars (Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor & Tremont, Northeast Harbor) and get out there to meet your fellow human beings.
